To make Chapati with international standards, follow these steps
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Water as needed
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
2. Gradually add water while kneading the flour to make a soft and pliable dough. The amount of water needed may vary depending on the flour, so add it gradually until the dough is neither too dry nor too sticky.
3. Once the dough comes together, add oil and continue kneading for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 15 minutes. This will help relax the dough and make rolling easier.
5. Divide the dough into small portions, around the size of a ping-pong ball.
6. Take one portion of the dough and roll it into a smooth ball using your palms. Flatten it slightly.
7. Dip the flattened dough in dry flour and roll it out into a thin, round-shaped disc using a rolling pin. If needed, sprinkle some more dry flour to prevent sticking.
8. Heat a tawa or non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
9. Carefully place the rolled Chapati onto the hot tawa. Allow it to cook for about 30 seconds or until small bubbles start to appear on the surface.
10. Flip the Chapati to the other side and cook for another 30 seconds or until golden brown spots appear.
11. Remove the Chapati from the tawa and place it on a plate. Press the cooked Chapati gently using a clean cloth or a spatula to make it puff up.
12. Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions, rolling and cooking each Chapati one at a time.
13. Serve hot with your favorite curry, vegetables, or chutney.
Tips:
- Use fresh and good-quality whole wheat flour for better results.
- It's important to roll the Chapati thinly and evenly for it to puff up properly.
- Make sure the tawa or skillet is sufficiently hot before placing the Chapati on it.
- For a richer taste, you can brush a little ghee (clarified butter) on the cooked Chapati before serving.
By following these steps, you'll be able to make Chapati that meets international standards. Enjoy your homemade Chapatis!
