The Jackal and the Drum
Once, a jackal left the forest in search of food and reached an open field. He was tired and fell asleep, but was frightened when he heard a booming sound. Terrified, he ran away, but stopped and thought that he might be scared for nothing. He decided to investigate the source of the sound. As he walked along, he saw a battle drum lying under a creeper. He realised that the creepers rubbed against the drum and made the noise. He then went close to the drum. He wondered if there was food in the drum and made a hole, but found it empty.
He left the place and continued searching for food. He consoled himself with the thought, “At least I overcame my fear."
Moral:
The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
